Apple to boot Windows, hassle free!

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

This is not April fool's joke any more, this is for real! Apple just released Boot Camp, which could be used to boot your Intel based Mac with Windows XP. Apple, however, will not support Windows running on its Mac.

This is such a smart move that could protentially attract more switchers to the Macintosh community. More users start comparing Mac OS X and Windows, more users will see the difference, and Think Different!

BTW, Apple's stock price is up 7.2% after the news is announced!

Unfortunately my iMac G5 won't be able to do this trick... :P

Apple and Nintendo to Merge?!

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Expect the unexpected! Apple might decide to enter the video games market by teaming up with Nintendo, and even a merger between them might take place! Nintendo might also change its plan to allow their upcoming new console, Revolution, to run Mac OS X!

Or, could this be just another April fool's joke?!

Charge your iPod with a Motorola USB Charger

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

I want to share with you all my little discovery which I found quite awhile ago. My wife own an iPod nano since it's released. Shortly after, we found that we need a way to charge it while we are out for Honeymoon in Tokyo. Without a computer to charge it using the included USB cable, how can we do so?

After some little research, it's found that we could charge the iPod nano using a Motorola USB charger which we own from the Razr V3! Since it accept inputs of 100V - 240V and outputs 5.0V, 550mA current with a USB Mini-B Male type adapter, that means we could get a power source anywhere in the world which is sufficient for USB charging! What we need is just a suitable USB changer that could fit both ends.

So, I bought a little USB changer of type 'USB Mini-B F / USB-A F' (just cost a few USD), join the Motorola USB charger and iPod nano (pluged with the included USB cable) with the USB changer, and the iPod nano get charged, without using the USB charger from Apple which costs USD 29.00.

Besides, I also managed to charge my Palm Tungsten T3 in the same way with a proper USB adapter for T3.

(USB A Female adapter end, connecting to iPod's USB cable)

(Motorola Razr V3's USB charger, with USB Mini-B Male adapter)

(Note the power input and output of the charger)

(Connected and charging! :>)

WARNING: This is just a little discovery I found, I take no responsibility if you try this and your devices get demaged.

My First Apple

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

Time flies! It has been one year (1 year and 3 days to be precise) since I bought my iMac G5 20" (Rev-1)! Happy birthday to my iMac G5 :P. Actually it has been sick for awhile recently due to some common problem that most Rev-1 iMac G5 do have. Luckily I got it repaired just in about 1 week time!

My first Apple computer is actually an Apple II+ bought by my parents when I was an 11-year-old kid. It's a cloned version that costs much less then a genuine one. After it became obsolete it has been replaced by an Intel 8088 CPU computer, and some later generations of Wintel computers as time passes. But after years, with enough torture from M$ Windoze, I decided to switch back to Apple. One of the most significant reasons is that I am a die-hard Unix/Linux fans and Mac OS X is just what I need: A decent GUI with Unix core.

BTW, Apple just announced new lines of Macs using Intel Core Duo chip, the long-waited notebook MacBook Pro and faster iMac. Guess I will stick with my iMac G5 for quite awhile before I will switch to Intel, mine G5 is still young and I have no intention to be lab rats :)
