What will be the future of Computer Desktop Management?

Although Mac OS X Tiger's latest desktop do have significant advantages and features (like Exposé, Dashboard, etc...) over Microsuck Windoze’s ‘almost-no-feature’ desktop management solutions, it's still far from revolutionary if compared to the old desktop interfaces dated back to those early Macintosh ones.

Might these video demos from University of Toronto (BumpTop) and Novell (Xgl) give you some ideas on how it could be in the near future?
